Don't Forget to Take Sabbath During Quarantine

IMG_9445.jpg

Real rest isn’t binging Netflix or scrolling through Instagram while you lay on the couch. I’m not telling you not to watch movies or shows during this quarantine (hello, I’ve binged Tiger King and The Morning Show so far.) I’m just worried that we’re mistaking downtime at home for Sabbath rest. Working from the couch all day is still working. Caring for your children all day is an important job. Hammering out emails in bed at 11 PM isn’t where your soul finds rest. Just because you’re home doesn’t mean you’re resting. I can’t tell you what Sabbath rest looks like for you, but I can encourage you to go to the Father and find real soul rest in Him. Put your phone down. Open your Bible. Go for a walk outside. Take a nap. Eat a delicious meal. Read a book. Laugh with your people. Whatever you know to do to renew and restore your body, soul, and mind, do it. Don’t get tricked into thinking you have to be your most productive self during this whole thing. And don’t get tricked into thinking you’ll come out on the other side rested if you stay on the couch either. We were made to need rest, and our weary souls can only find it in One place, in One God. Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
